Awarded for an original work of short fiction under 2000 words. Submissions will be open until March, 15th (2020)
The aim of the Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize is both to celebrate the best of new short fiction and to give winners the most visibility possible for their writing. That’s why the contest is teamed up with fourteen different literary and artistic institutions to offer not only a cash prize and writing retreats but to ensure that all the shortlisters have the opportunity to be published in multiple print and online journals, have their work put in front of literary agents and perform in multiple countries.
The judging panel is comprised of Rachel Cusk, Niven Govinden, Ottessa Moshfegh, and Claire-Louise Bennett. Also, there have been added more to the prize kitty this year, with more partner journals than before, higher monetary prizes for runners-up, meetings with a UK literary agent for the winner and runners-up, and publication and events across Europe.
Last year, the contest compiled a booklet Eleven Stories 2019, which you can see here.
