Dial-a-poem

The Artists and Poets exhibition was inaugurated on the 12th of February and its features an unusual “telephone service”: recordings of 30 poems, written and spoken by Austrian writers and curated by Fritz Ostermayer & the Vienna Poetry School:

Bauer, elffriede.aufzeichnensysteme, Gerhard Rühm, Jürgen Berlakovich, Christine Huber, Gerhard Ruiss, H.C. Artmann, Heidi Pataki, Maja Haderlap, Martin Fritz, Christian Loidl, Friedericke Mayröcker, Judith Nika Pfeifer, Zuzana Husárová, Robert Schindl, Ferdinand Schmatz, Franzobel, Hubert Weinheimer, Ingeborg Bachmann, Rosa Pock, Bodo Hell, Elfriede Gerstl, Reinhard Priessnitz, Sophie Reyer and Wolfgang Bauer.

dial-a-poemArtists and Poets is Rondinone’s third exhibition dedicated to a wide-ranging exploration of the relationship between visual art and lyric poetry and the articulation of his conviction that the arts possess a spiritual and transcendental power. Also, Rondinone believes that creativity, whether it takes the form of a poem, a sculpture, or a painting, can affect us deeply.

With Artists and poets, Rondinone also refers to a local context, because –from 1986 to 1990– he studied at Vienna’s University for Applied Arts and therefore has a special connection to the city. Likewise, the poetry installation Dial-a-poem by us-performance artist and poet John Giorno is being adapted for the exhibition.

Since its opening, visitors may listen to Dial-A-Poem also by calling the Vienna landline number +43 (0)1 585 04 33!
