9th annual poetry competition

The Annual Nâzim Hikmet Poetry Competition is open for submissions until January, 15, 2017. Winners will receive an award of $100

In cooperation with the American Turkish Association, this annual celebration of poetry brings together poets, scholars and poetry fans in the humanistic spirit of the international renowned poet Nazim Hikmet Ran.

will be invited to read their poems at the 9th Annual Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival, which will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Page-Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, North Carolina. Winning poems will be published in the Festival anthology and on the festival web site.  Previous festival books are available at Amazon.com

There is a non-refundable $10 submission fee. If for any reason you cannot afford to pay the submission fee, please contact the organizers at the e-mail address below.

Submission requirements

(*) Deadline to submit is January 15, 2017.

(*) All entries MUST be submitted via https://nhpf.submittable.com/submit

(*) All poems submitted to the Festival must be unpublished, original works. Poems that are previously published in any form (including self-published books, online publications, blogs, and social media) are not eligible.

(*) Poet must submit three poems. Entries with fewer than three poems will not be considered.

(*) Poems must be submitted in ONE file. Acceptable formats include .doc, .docx, or .pdf.

(*) The poems should be in English.

(*) Winning poems will be published in the annual NHPF anthology. Proceeds from anthology sales are used to support future competitions. Winning poems may also appear in promotional publications or online. By submitting their poems, poets grant NHPF rights to publish the poems at these venues.

(*) The poets will retain copyrights of their poems.

(*) Simultaneous submissions are allowed, however poets are expected to withdraw these submissions from other competitions if their work is listed among the winning poems of the Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Competition.

(*) The prize cannot be awarded in consecutive years to the same poet.

(*) Entries flaunting degrading sexual and physical violence or espousing extreme and/or violent political views will not be considered for judging at the discretion of the Nâzim Hikmet Poetry Festival.

Selection & notification

(*) Submitted poems will be evaluated anonymously.
(*) Contact information provided by the poets will not be disclosed to other individuals or organizations.
